President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a written statement on the terror attack carried out in the Ortaköy district of Istanbul:
I strongly condemn the terror attack that took place in the early hours of 2017 in the Ortaköy district of Istanbul.
I wish Allah’s mercy upon our security personnel and citizens who lost their lives in the attack, and pay homage to our foreign guests killed in this deplorable incident.
I offer my condolences to victims’ relatives, and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.
Those aiming at the peace of our nation, and their pawns, are working to destabilize our country and trigger chaos by demoralizing our people through their heinous attacks that also target civilians.
However, we, as the nation, will never give passage to these dirty games, further uniting together and preserving our calmness.
Turkey, continuing its fight against terror, is extremely determined to do whatever it takes in the region, too, to ensure the security and peace of its citizens.
We are aware that these attacks, carried out by various terror organizations against our country, are not independent from incidents happening in our region. We are determined to eradicate threats and attacks against our country at their source.
Every single life we lose in this process makes our hearts bleed, but at the same time, further sharpens our perseverance and determination to struggle.
As the country and nation, we will fight against not only armed attacks of terror organizations and the powers behind them, but also against their economic, political and social attacks, to the end.
The brutal attack in Istanbul has clearly showed that terror aims to shed blood, claim lives, and hurt people without any discrimination.
I once again wish Allah’s mercy and grace upon our security personnel and citizens who lost their lives in this heinous attack, and a quick recovery to the wounded.
