Formula One World Championship, besides being the most popular automobile sports competition of the world, is the most watched sporting event after the Olympic Games, which are held every four years, and the FIFA World Cup.
Formula One, abbreviated as F1, is the highest class of single-seat and open-wheel auto racing. Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship titles are awarded at the end of the year according to the points collected throughout the year.
The races, which took place in 21 countries in 2016, are being held in 20 countries in 2017. Works are continuing under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey to include Turkey in the 2018 Race Calendar and hold F1 races at the Intercity İstanbul Park.
It is known that scientists have been conducting research on various topics ranging from energy, fishery, geology and medicine to chemistry, astronomy, climate change and marine sciences in Antarctica, which possesses rich reserves of minerals and water.
The Antarctic Treaty, signed by 12 countries in 1959 to regulate the international status of Antarctica, entered into force in 1961, and Turkey acceded to it in 1995. Turkey must organize a scientific expedition to Antarctica and set up a scientific research base there so as to obtain “Consultative Party” status at the Antarctic Treaty Secretariat.
All the acts and works aimed at the formation of a scientific research base in Antarctica will be conducted under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and under the responsibility of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.
The Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards are granted on behalf of the Turkish State to Turkish citizens, those of foreign descent and agencies that contribute to the Turkish cultural and art life and that raise the standards of the country’s culture and arts for the purpose of honoring and encouraging these people according to the “Statute for the Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards” issued on January 20, 1995 in the Official Gazette.
Among the laureates for 2014 were Hülya Koçyiğit in cinema; Niyazı Sayın in music; Alev Alatlı in literature; Prof. Dr. Engin Akarlı in history and Turkish Religious Foundation Encyclopedia of Islam as an institution.
TUBA 2016 Academy Prizes, GEBİP (Outstanding Young Scientists) and TEÇEP (Best Authored and Translated Books) Awards were presented to the awardees on February 1, 2017 under the auspices of the Presidency at the Presidential Complex.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented their awards to Rector Prof. Cangiz Kallek of Istanbul Şehir University on behalf of Prof. Şerif Mardin of Istanbul Şehir University in the category of Social Sciences and Humanities, to TUBA’s Principal Member Prof. Tayfun Özçelik on behalf of Prof. Mary-Claire King of University of Washington in the category of Health and Life Sciences, and to Prof. Omar Yaghi of University of California, Berkeley in the category of Basic and Engineering Sciences.
31 scientists were awarded as part of the Outstanding Young Scientists Awards program and 6 scientists were awarded as part of the Best Authored and Translated Books Awards program.

The project, carried out by Istanbul University and Yıldız Technical University, is aimed at digitizing a photography collection of 36,585 items, taken at the end of the 19th century and in the beginning of the 20th century on the order of Sultan Abdulhamid II, and currently preserved at the Rare Works Library of Istanbul University.
Transferring the collection to future generations, preserving assets of cultural heritage and providing digital access to the collection are among the basic objectives of the project. An exhibition, titled “Encounters and Crosspaths in Ottoman-French Relations in mid-19th Century, through the Collection of photographs of the Yıldız Palace”, will be held at UNESCO House in Paris between April 6th and 11th.

Phoenix: The Musical by the Music Department of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation aims to exhibit the rich Turkish culture and history while also embracing all with the unifying dynamism of our culture.
The musical was first performed on May 6, 2015 at an official dinner hosted at the Presidential Complex in honor of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. On May 6, 2016, the musical was performed at Haliç Congress Center by the TRT Ankara Radio Polyphonic Choir and the TRT Istanbul Light Music and Jazz Orchestra. The event is still ongoing.

The aims of the campaign ‘Move to Overcome’ are to make 100 thousand people with disabilities and 100 thousand people without disabilities come together and do sports, encourage pre-school children with disabilities to engage in rehabilitative physical and sportive activities, double the segment of the society informed that people with disabilities can do sports, inform the society that people with disabilities can adapt to the society more easily via sports, and eliminate the ‘disabilities’ in every sense. With the campaign, our youth both with and without disabilities will have a stronger social adaptation, their life standards will rise and the individuals with disabilities will be enabled to lead an active life without drifting away from the society.
As part of the campaign, the children and the youth with disabilities will be canalized to various sportive branches in line with their competencies and will be taught the basic technics and talents of the relevant branch.

The project ‘Encouraging a Culture of Healthy Life’ has been implemented with the aim of earning the children and the youth the habit of an active life and thus making them lead a healthy life as well as easing the possible burden on our future health system with the help of increased physical activity among the society.
As part of the project, the improvement of environmental conditions and the construction of bicycle roads are urged so as to popularize the use of bicycle as one of the most effective methods to increase the level of physical activity.
The Ministry of Health and the Public Health Institute of Turkey aim to launch new projects to encourage the use of bicycle as part of the ongoing struggle against the physical inactivity. In this direction, a total of 1 million bicycles are planned to have been delivered to the public by the end of 2018 under the project ‘Encouraging a Culture of Healthy Life.’
Having been organized in cooperation with Turkish Archery Federation and World Archery for three years, the Traditional Conquest Cup is acknowledged as the biggest civilian archery event of the World. Attracting many Turkish and foreign athletes along with the attention of the media, the event has taken its place among prestigious organizations.

World Petroleum Congress aims to monitor first-hand the developments in the industry and cover all aspects of the industry, including exploration, production, development, transportation, refining, marketing, pricing, environment, social responsibility, sustainability, human resources, attracting the youth to the industry, geopolitics, education and training.
Turkey will host the congress, conducted by the World Petroleum Council Turkish National Committee, for the first time. The 22nd World Petroleum Congress will be held in Istanbul on 9-13 July, 2017.

Having lived during the period of Suleiman the Magnificent, Matrakçı Nasuh was a renowned historian, mathematician, painter, poet, philosopher, calligrapher and swordsman.
UNESCO has included Matrakçı Nasuh in the 2014-2015 “Celebration of Anniversaries” list on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his passing. The 16th Century Genius Matrakçı Nasuh Project, conducted by Istanbul Intercultural Art Dialogues Association, is accepted and supported by UNESCO.
The project aims to remember, understand and portray Matrakçı Nasuh on national and international platforms through exhibitions (tiles, miniatures, calligraphies and paintings), documentaries, books, panels, music albums.
The project will be conducted in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Rome, Paris, Vienna, Istanbul, Ankara, Tokyo, and New York and end in the Hungarian city of Budapest, where Suleiman the Magnificent passed away.

The Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey (TUR) started in 1963 with the name of "Marmara Tour", gained international status in 1965 for the first time and was taken under the auspices of the Presidency in 1966.
On its 52nd anniversary the tour was held between April 24 and May 1, 2016 in 8 stages. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the press tour held on April 6, 2016.
The world's sole "transcontinental cycling tour" witnessed high-level competition of world-renowned athletes and teams. The Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey has been reaching a wide access network throughout the world via live and recorded broadcasts by means of prestigious national and international channels in more than 150 countries since 2008. Unlike previous years, tour route started from Istanbul and it ended in the Selçuk district of İzmir on May 1, 2016.
Portuguese cyclist Jose Gonçalves, racing for Spanish team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, came first in general classification of the 52nd Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. Following the completion of Marmaris-Selçuk stage of the tour, successful cyclists and teams were presented with their trophies in a ceremony attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç and Deputy Secretary General and Spokesperson of the Presidency Ambassador İbrahim Kalın
